Sam Nordquist Murder Suspect Listed as a Violent Level 3 Sex Offender Living at Patty's Lodge
At the time of his arrest in connection to Nordquist’s murder, Goodwin was listed as living at Patty’s Lodge, Room 16, in Canandaigua—the same motel where police executed a search warrant.
As the investigation into the tragic death of Sam Nordquist unfolds, it has been revealed that one of the suspects charged with his murder is a registered Level 3 sex offender with a deeply troubling criminal history, according to a public records search in the New York State Sex Offender Registry.
Patrick Allen Goodwin, 30, of Canandaigua, is one of five individuals arrested in connection to Nordquist’s murder. Court records show that Goodwin has a prior conviction for first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse involving two young children, ages 7 and 9, dating back to 2014.
Goodwin was convicted in May 2015 and sentenced to 126 months in state prison. According to the New York State Sex Offender Registry, he is classified as a Level 3 offender, the highest risk level, reserved for those considered to have a high likelihood of reoffending. His offenses involved multiple instances of sexual contact with children under 11 years old, with no weapon used but with significant harm caused to his victims.
At the time of his arrest in connection to Nordquist’s murder, Goodwin was listed as living at Patty’s Lodge, Room 16, in Canandaigua—the same motel where police executed a search warrant related to Nordquist’s disappearance. Evidence uncovered in Room 22 at the lodge confirmed suspicions of prolonged physical and psychological abuse inflicted on Nordquist from December 2024 to February 2025. His body was later discovered in a field off Payne Road in the Town of Benton, Yates County.
Goodwin’s past conviction raises serious concerns about how a convicted sex offender with a history of crimes against children became involved in such a brutal and depraved crime. Law enforcement officials describe the abuse that Nordquist endured as “prolonged and sadistic.”
Ontario County District Attorney James Ritts said the case is the worst his office has ever seen, describing the acts committed against Nordquist as "beyond depraved."
Goodwin is currently being held without bail at the Ontario County Jail, along with co-defendants Precious Nicole Arzuaga, Jennifer Adrienne Quijano, Kyle Robert Sage, and Emily Jean Motyka. All five are charged with second-degree murder with depraved indifference.
The revelation of Goodwin’s criminal past has left many in the community shaken. Questions are now being raised about whether more could have been done to monitor his actions or prevent him from becoming involved in another violent crime.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” said New York State Police. “We encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.”
As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the details of a case that has exposed a dark and harrowing story of abuse, neglect, and tragedy.
