Steuben County Man Charged with Animal Cruelty After Malnourished Dog Found in Abandoned Home

A Steuben County man has been charged with animal cruelty following the discovery of an abandoned and emaciated dog at a residence in Prattsburgh, New York.
New York State Police from SP Bath responded to a complaint on December 28, 2024, about a dog left inside the residence. Upon investigation, the dog was found malnourished and without proper care. The Steuben County Dog Control Officer was called to the scene and safely removed the animal.
Authorities later identified the dog’s owner, Chad C. Alfano, 35, of Prattsburgh. On January 13, 2025, Alfano was charged with torturing or injuring animals and failing to provide sustenance, a misdemeanor under New York State law.
Alfano was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Prattsburgh Town Court on February 12, 2025.
